My thoughts exactly

My thoughts exactly...

Jack White has been my favorite guitarist for a long time. The way he presents himself and his dedication, attitude, and respect to his art and fellow musicians makes him such a great model for any aspiring guitarist. In a recent interview for the upcoming film "It Might Get Loud," White, and Jimmy Page, my second favorite guitarist, were asked what they thought about the current trend for music video games.

I couldn't agree more.

I find it frustrating, and sad, when students, or people in general only know of particular songs, or music from video games. They haven't found it naturally. They haven't been introduced to it in the proper way, therefore they probably don't appreciate, or understand it as well as they should.

I'm a guitarist who has been playing for the past 14 years, and teaching for the past 3. When a student comes in asking to learn a particular song, naturally I inquire as to where they heard it, and why they like it/want to learn it... Most common response: I can play this song in Guitar Hero.

Ugh.

Is it not better, though, than not knowing the song or artist at all? Which very well might be the case for a lot of these kids.
